What Is an Over/Under, or Total, Bet?
An over/under bet isn't about betting on which team will win but how many total points/runs/goals will be scored in any given game.
The way an over/under bet works is the IA sportsbook will set a number, let's say it's 39.5, in the upcoming Iowa vs. Iowa State football game. They believe the final score of game will be around 39-40 points. You as a sports bettor need to decide if you believe the sportsbook set that number too high or too low.
Think the game will end up in a 31-30 result? Take the over since the final score is 21 points over the total the sportsbook set. Defensive battle resulting in a score of 10-6? Then you'd want to take the under since 16 total points is far below the 39.5 line that was set.
